The PAF® 36th Anniversary Neck humbucker embodies the ideal traits of vintage pickups: a soft magnetic field, sweet tone, and a balance of warmth and clarity that responds to pick attack for dynamic sound. Inspired by pioneers like Seth Lover, we re-engineered the original PAF® design using advanced technology and Larry DiMarzio’s 1959 Gibson® Les Paul® as a reference. The pickups feature a weak magnetic field for longer string vibration and clearer attack, while computer-controlled winding ensures precise frequency response. Dipped in a custom formula to reduce squeal, the nickel-silver cover offers improved magnetic transparency. The PAF® 36th Anniversary Neck delivers a smooth, well-defined sound and is versatile for both neck and bridge positions. Customize your pickup with options for bobbin style, base type, and cable configuration. It’s available uncovered or with a choice of authentic covers.

Tech Talk
There is no reference standard for the sound of a humbucker from the 1950s. All of them had variations in output and tone, and these differences could be quite large. Recently, we have focused our research on making pickups with warm highs and bright lows. This combination is only found in our favorite vintage humbuckers, and it’s really good for a pickup intended for both the neck and bridge positions. It allows the bass strings in the neck position to avoid muddiness, and the treble strings in the bridge position to be warm and not brittle.
