Tonar Wash & Dry

Many people associate vinyl records with snaps and clicks when enjoying the music. To some extent, this is part of the charm of the medium, but of course it must not take over the experience.

Unless your discs have scratches, these noises are usually due to dirt that has accumulated and stuck in the grooves. Clean dust can often be removed with a brush, but the air is full of pollution from the traffic outside, grease from cooking and, in the worst case, tobacco smoke. This can create a film that sticks to the dust particles and can be difficult to get rid of. Discs that have been stored for a long time may turn out to be affected by mold or fungus.

When you play a dirty record, the needle will scrape off dirt from the record track and this dirt ends up on the tip of the needle instead. In the worst case, a heavily soiled needle can lose the ability to track the disc, which can cause permanent damage to both needle and disc.

Even brand new discs often need to be washed. In the pressing, oils and release agents are used which can leave sticky residues on the surface of the disc.
