Cayin CP6

The Cayin CP6 is a portable Hi-Fi headphone amplifier and DAC combining Raytheon JAN6418 NOS vacuum tubes with modern digital audio technology. Its dual-channel Class A common-cathode amplification stage provides three selectable timbre modes, allowing the sound character to be changed according to preference.

Classic Timbre provides a smooth and musical presentation, Modern Timbre offers a spacious presentation with high resolution, while Solid State Timbre provides a clean, transparent and neutral sound. All outputs support one-touch switching between the three modes.

CP6 supports both internal rechargeable battery operation and external DC power, allowing it to be used as a portable or desktop unit. Battery operation provides up to 7.5 hours of playback and supports PD fast charging. In DC power mode, the balanced output delivers up to 1300 mW + 1300 mW at 16 ohms.

The amplifier uses a fully discrete architecture with op-amp voltage amplification followed by a high-power discrete transistor push-pull stage, supporting headphones and earphones from 8 to 600 ohms. A dual-DAC architecture uses two Cirrus Logic CS4308P 32-bit, 8-channel DACs operating permanently in Mono Mode, with two Texas Instruments OPA1612 op-amps handling I/V conversion and low-pass filtering.

Digital audio is handled by an XMOS XU316 16-core USB audio processor with asynchronous USB transmission and high-precision clock reconstruction. Bluetooth connectivity uses Qualcomm QCC3083 with Bluetooth 5.4 and supports LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC. The unit also supports bidirectional Bluetooth operation with transmission and reception.
