This iconic sound, heard on recordings by legends such as Rory Gallagher, Brian May, and Marc Bolan, helped define the early years of rock. The VTB-1 revives this legacy with a redesigned, tour-ready booster that delivers the expressive character of the original—without the limitations of 1960s germanium technology.

Vintage character, modern stability
Classic Treble Boosters used germanium transistors, beloved for their rich and non-linear response but notorious for temperature sensitivity, inconsistent performance, and noise. Replacing them with silicon transistors often means losing the musical magic.

After careful analysis of several original units and months of modeling, VOX developed a new solution that captures the wide and nuanced breakup range of a really good germanium transistor – using a single, precisely biased silicon transistor. The result is smooth overdrive, singing harmonics, and exceptional cleanup via the guitar's volume control.

At the heart of the VTB-1 is a hand-selected Silver Can BC108 transistor, chosen for its stability, low noise level, and authentic vintage feel. Modern thin-film resistors further reduce noise compared to 1960s components.
