FetHead Transformer is a high quality inline microphone preamplifier. It provides a very warm and thick yet articulate sound for dynamic and ribbon microphones. FetHead Transformer’s desirable character is a really great addition to (interface) preamps which sound rather neutral. A novel class-A jFET circuit combined with a custom wound nickel core transformer delivers 28dB of transformer infused gain.

Transformer color

Many high-end studio grade preamps, compressors, equalizers and consoles have something in common. They all have transformers in the signal path. These transformers impart a huge sonic footprint on those designs. Audio transformers affect the sound quality because they are non-linear. They add a little harmonic distortion and compression to the signal which our ears perceive as “warm and thick”.
