The RG1220PB has a body made of American basswood, which is a fairly light wood with even frequency response across the entire register. This makes it a wood that is easy to colour in many different ways and get many different kinds of sounds out of. The even frequency response also makes it very suitable for distorted sounds, as it binds the sound together nicely without becoming either scattered or unclear.
The top is made of Burl poplar, an exciting wood species that varies greatly in appearance between different pieces, meaning that no two guitars look exactly the same.
The neck is a 7-piece construction of maple and walnut, throughout, which provides an extremely stable construction. The neck profile is Ibanez's classic Wizard III profile.
The fingerboard is equipped with Jumbo Stainless frets, which are significantly harder than normal frets, meaning that they wear much more slowly than standard frets. They also retain their smooth, supple, “newly polished fret” feel much longer than standard frets. If you don't play extremely much and tour constantly, they will last a lifetime.
They are not indestructible, but they come close. The neck is also equipped with Luminlay side dots, self-illuminating fret markers. A godsend on dark stages.

The RG1220PBK has an Ibanez Wizard III neck profile. Wizard can be best described as a slightly thicker Super Wizard neck. It has the same flat fingerboard (400mmR), the same width and the same well-ground frets as Super Wizard, but is slightly thicker. A neck for those who want what Ibanez is known for, an extremely fast and easy-to-play neck, but want a little more wood in their hands.
