Although more expensive to make, planar magnetic headphones offer a number of advantages over conventional dynamic ones. These include lighter diaphragms for a faster response and a linear spread of sound across the speaker, reducing the level of distortion.

Stealth magnets for acoustic ‘invisibility’
Planar magnetic and electrostatic headphones offer numerous advantages but both suffer from a design limitation – magnet interference. As the soundwave passes from the diaphragms, over the magnets themselves, distortion takes place – colouring the sound you hear. To overcome this, the HS1000se uses specially designed, stealth magnets that enable the waves to pass unimpeded. The result is astonishing realism – even by HIFIMAN’s own high standards.

Nanometre thick diaphragms for enhanced detail and speed
Developed by HIFIMAN and the first of its kind, the HE1000se uses incredibly thin diaphragms for an exceptionally musical response. Thinner diaphragms are lighter, meaning music is faster to respond and react to differences in tempo. Lighter weight also makes for superior high-end detail and a more nuanced sound. Designed for clearer sound
Eye-catching ‘window shade grilles’ give these headphones aesthetic appeal. More than that, though, the grilles perform a practical purpose in greatly reducing sonic reflections. Reduced reflection means a less muddled sound and greater clarity.
