Tribute to the Rare 1965 Transitional Firebird Models

In early 1965, the Firebird™ design evolved, notably with the introduction of the Non-Reverse headstock. This new flat design replaced the original two-layered style and included six-in-line tuners instead of the earlier banjo-style. The Firebird Platypus honors these rare models, featuring a mahogany body with a glued-in set neck, resembling the traditional neck-through design. Its mahogany neck sports a SlimTaper™ profile, a rosewood fretboard with a 12” radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, and acrylic trapezoid inlays. The modified Platypus headstock offers improved string pull and tuning stability, complemented by a Nashville Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece for enhanced sustain. Equipped with two historically accurate Firebird mini humbucker™ pickups, it delivers a bell-like tone when clean and powerful rock and blues sounds when pushed. Customizable volume and tone controls and the iconic hot-stamped Firebird graphic on the pickguard complete the design, which comes with a Gibson hardshell case.
