Evans made the first synthetic drum heads in 1956. Before that, the skins were natural skins that sounded great, but these skins moulded and were sensitive to both moisture and impact. So when Evans introduced durable heads that didn't warp, it was a minor revolution. However, the calfskin sound ideal has endured and the look enhances most drum sets.
Now, sixty years later, Evans presents Calftone skins which, with modern technology, new films and Level 360, offer the warm familiar calfskin sound combined with quality and durability.
The puk and swirl skins are made from a 7 mil film, plus a surface layer of unique materials that affect both sound and look. In other words, these are thinner than Calftone bass drum skins to optimise the sound for smaller drums, higher tunings and wider tonal response.
Calftone has a Level 360 profile for the best fit, tonal range and tunability.
