ENGL E653 "Artist Edition" 50W Head. This is another epic, epic amplifier from our friends at ENGL.The E653 has the classic ENGL tight, aggressive, liquidy, punchy high-gain sound, along with rich, sweet low/medium gain tones and dazzling pristine cleans. Built in noisegate as well. Plus green LEDs, which is what really counts.

The new ENGL Artist Edition was developed as a modified version of an E650 Blackmore Signature head, originally used from 2006 as a studio amp by Gary Moore. This first unit was eventually returned to ENGL upon Gary’s passing. Although based on the E650, ENGL amp designer Horst Langer incorporated some modifications such as replacing the 5881 power amp tubes and voicing with EL34’s. Within a short time, word got out about this version and artists such as Jimmy Page, Doug Aldrich, Ken Hammer, Paul Stanley and Scott Gorham put in their requests and have been using them since live and in the studio.

So far all of us here at the AP have been floored by this amp. We were expecting it to sound like the Blackmore with EL34s, but its a completely different animal. Savagely brutal and cutting when needed, or sweet, warm and liquidy -- whatever your mood calls for. Very fast response and low-note tracking, but does not sound sterile or compressed at all. Top notch amp, I implore anyone in the New England area interested to come demo this for yourself and see!
