The EMG-85 uses two Alnico magnets in two coils spaced slightly further apart to deliver a tight low end and a rich high end. Since this produces a more natural tone, it’s ideal as a rhythm and blues pickup. It has a high output without sounding “muddy.” The EMG-85 is perfect in the neck position paired with an EMG-81 at the bridge. This is the combination used by Zakk Wylde.
