Celebrating 35 Years of the Most Influential Sampling Drum Machine
1988 was a pivotal year in Hip-Hop with legendary artists like Erik B & Rakim, Rob Base & DJ Ease Rock, Erick Sermon & EPMD to Dr Dre & NWA were cementing the sound of Hip-Hop. The innovative sound was a mixture of classic drum breaks, chops and melodic grooves sampled directly from vinyl which flooded the airwaves. That same year, the first MPC was introduced to the world by Akai Professional and Roger Linn.  “The MPC60”  The MPC 60 was a 12bit sample based drum machine which opened up new creative and intuitive workflow with fast and efficient sampling technology merged with powerful sequencing. The MPC 60 revolutionized groove-based music creation in genres like New Jack Swing, Chicago House becoming the main Sampling Drum Machine dominating the Hip-Hop production scene.

35 years on, MPC continues to maintain it’s influence across all musical genres with an indelible mark on Hip-Hop with it’s contribution to the “Golden Age”. MPC is regarded today as the most influential sampling drum machine ever created, embedding itself into the history of music.
